Wolf von Kumberg
Certified Mediator, Arbitrator and Conflict Avoidance Board Member
Wolf spent nearly 30 years in London, as European Legal Director and Assistant General Counsel to Northrop Grumman a global aerospace/security company. In that position he was responsible for its international legal affairs. Prior to that, he served 5 years as the Vice President – Legal Affairs for Litton Canada, after having spent several years in legal practice with a major Toronto Law Firm. He retired from Northrop Grumman in 2015 as its Assistant General Counsel and is now a member of ArbDB Chambers in London and the Managing Director of Global Resolution Services a provider of dispute resolution services.In 2019 Wolf established Global Resolution Resources LLC in Washington DC to serve the US and Canadian dispute resolution markets. Wolf has received law degrees from Canadian and European Universities and is qualified as a lawyer in both Canada and England.
Wolf was involved in many of Northrop Grumman’s International legal disputes and has been a keen advocate for early dispute resolution (ADR), as well as conflict management. In that context, he is both qualified as an arbitrator and mediator and is an advocate for the broad use of dispute boards by Industry and Government. He has also been instrumental in bringing mediation to Investor/State disputes where he has worked together with ICSID, The Energy Charter Treaty Organisation and CEDR to provide Investor State mediation training and expertise.
Wolf was the first Chair of the International Mediation Institute (IMI), which has advocated international standards for mediators. He is in addition, a Fellow of the Chartered Institute of Arbitrators and was the Chair of it’s Board of Management. He also served as a Director of the American Arbitration Association (AAA). Wolf is a co-founder of the International Dispute Registry (IDR), which specialises in drafting ADR systems architecture for States and provides speciality mediation panels for Investor State and State to State disputes. In addition, he has been widely involved in arbitration, mediation and conflict avoidance board training for the CIArb, AAA and CEDR. He sits on numerous mediation and arbitration panels and assisted DIAC (Dubai International Arbitration Centre) in drafting and launching its mediation rules. He sits on the DIAC Advisory Committee.
Wolf has been a thought leader in the field of Investor State mediation. He has worked closely with ICSID, CEDR and the Energy Charter Treaty organisation to enhance the capacity for the use of mediation in investment disputes. In 2024 he was named by the President of the World Bank to the ICSID Conciliation Panel and has assisted both investors and States in finding amicable resolutions to their disputes.
Arabella von Kumberg is Chief Operating Officer (COO) and Dispute Analyst at GRR in Washington, DC. She is an international lawyer, graduating in law at University La Sapienza, Rome, writing her dissertation on The Know-How Contract in American, German and Italian Law. Her work experience includes Associate at Radcliffes Law Firm, as well as, Legal Consultant at Banca Nazionale del Lavoro in London, England. She is fluent in English, Italian, French, German and Spanish.
